Kiem Tegnar is a Prince Royal of the Iskat Empire, and he is friendly, kind and genuinely interested in getting to know people. Despite this he is also the Emperor’s least favourite grandchild and a disappointment to his family. He does have a habit of ending up in the tabloid newslogs for getting into trouble that isn’t always intended to be as bad as they end up to be, and his mother, a general in the Iskat army, is about to give up on him ever managing a respectable military career. Especially since he fails at firing a gun.
Kiem’s other parent died two years ago, and neither Kiem nor his mother dealt with it very well, and they ended up in conflicts and is now gradually drifting apart. Most of Kiem’s deliberate scandals, which involves flooding his previous school with the ice machine and betting half a year’s allowance on being able to climb the dome of the shrine, are cries for attention, as well as just trying to be the failure everyone thinks he is.
It was the bet about climbing the shrine that got him sent to Fandom by the Emperor. It was either that or a monastery, and Kiem is relieved, because meditating isn’t his thing. He might be the only one who won’t mind the squirrels, since they aren’t as bad as the newslogs and don’t take embarrassing photos. Also, he likes animals, and might even feed them without it being a bribe.
Kiem is from a novel called Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell. The original version of it was published on ao3 under the title The Course of Honour, described as ”space princes arranged marriage”. It’s set when Kiem is in his mid twenties and ends up in an arranged political marriage, and is a slowburn romance with lots of misunderstandings and political intrigues, where Kiem and his partner Jainan end up more or less saving the Empire and managing to make some good changes.
Not much have happened to the others, so you find the information about them here. That is also where you find the gifs.
I can add that Seivarden now has three chocobros as roommates, and she has no complaints. Lucille now have gloveless piano lessons and poetry reading in bed with Tisarwat, but no details. They are very private.
I'm Sanna, and I happily email or message people on Discord, even just to say that a thread makes me happy, and won't mind if others do too.
